State of the Union 2014

The suggestion was made at last week’s meeting that we discuss the President’s State of the Union address next Monday (February 3). Hopefully many of you were able to see it live (or delayed).
If you want to study it more closely (and I encourage you to do so, for a better discussion on Monday), here’s a link to the transcript of the speech as drafted. (I noted a few very minor departures in the speech as given–mostly exclamations, repetitions and an extra word here or there—that don’t change the substance of what was (or wasn’t) said.)

A few changes to the site…

If you visit the site, you’ll note that I’ve made a few changes to make it more dynamic…the home page now shows a rolling list of recent submissions (often based on op-ed pieces referring to current topics of national, international or local importance). For those who are duly registered (and receive email notifications of this stuff), you should be able to read the referenced articles on the web site. I’m looking for other contributors from our Monday group to either 1) provide more “food for thought” or 2) comment on the existing posts. Please feel free to do so and let me know if you have any problems or questions.
